The key to financial security (if you work in tech)

Something not talked about enough, for people who work in tech:

Financial security.

It's too simple to say this is about making money. It is, but it's more specific than that.

Especially because the job search process has gotten harder. It's kind of a nightmare for everyone involved.

Companies are overwhelmed with job applications, most of them deeply unqualified for that role, with no good way to sort through them. And when you ARE a great candidate, there's a high risk their attempts to sort out the fakers will unfairly reject you, too. A mess that has been created by the very automation we have devoted our careers to.

The best way to turn this on its head:

Position yourself so that opportunities are seeking you out, rather than you chasing them.

And there are many good ways to do this. Public speaking (even virtually, e.g. over Zoom) might be the easiest and fastest. There are other good ways, too.

But without going into the logistics of how to do that...

It starts with a mindset of thinking differently.

And it does require you take a baby step out of your comfort zone.

Because that baby step is all it takes to realize it's easier than you imagined, and more fun too.

And it leads to a different life experience. Where you suddenly realize people have started seeing you as something like a thought leader, even if you do not feel that way. And you feel more secure in your ability to support yourself in the short term, and confident you can maintain the lifestyle you want in the future too.

Something to think about.

I'll say more about this soon. Reply and share your thoughts with me on all this.
