Just because you join, doesn't mean you're part of it
Key point for today:
Just because you join a community, does not mean you are PART of that community.
That is something you must earn, in any community worth joining. Whether that community is online, in-person, or both.
So how do you earn that?
-
Showing up consistently. Being there enough that people recognize you, and you start to become familiar to them.
-
Participating in positive ways. You are actively engaged, you contribute to the group, and you let others contribute to you. It's not "one-way" in either direction.
-
Demonstrating your professionalism. You can be relied on; you show discernment and good judgment in how you communicate with others. You have standards that you hold yourself to, and hold others to also.
-
Learning as you help others learn. So that you and the group are growing together over time, faster and further than any of you could do on your own.
I say this because when you join Boosted Code, in addition to the vast, varied, yet inter-connected curriculum, there's also a community you can join.
But that's just step 0. You don't get any of the actual benefits of being in that community, unless you do the above.
The big problem with communities is that most of them are NOT worth joining.
I'll just point out that Boosted Code's triple-focus of 1. financial security, 2. agentic coding, and 3. engineering foundations will attract a certain caliber of individual. I can tell you some high quality people have joined already, and I expect more.
Of course, this level of involvement is optional. You could just focus on the curriculum, and lurk in the chat rooms, learning from other's conversations. Lots of value in that. But it's nice to know that community is there, when you are ready.
